Appearances

Never have I seen you without doing a double take
Or wanting to.
Never have I seen you without admiring
The outer.
Never have I known you to be admirable on the
Inside.
Too bad.
You would have been nice to know.
At Sight

The hard rush of adrenaline
Racing through my head
My body
Anywhere but where it really matters
Where it could reach
The heart
But something in me succumbs
To you
A wellspring of something akin to pity –
Pity mixed with respect
Or awe
At the cover you maintain
Invulnerable to all who come,
Invincible –
You hold me
You always have,
At sight.

A Poem About Guppies and Baboons

A baboon is bouncy and bubbly and fun
Just like a guppy, but bigger than one
Baboons can swim, but guppies swim better
Baboons are fuzzy, but guppies are wetter
Guppies don’t swing on a branch in a tree
Baboons just sit there and itch at a flea
Guppies blow bubbles and float at the top
But the floating part happens when their tiny hearts stop
Baboons when they die just hang from a vine
Even in death they try to look fine.
Guppies are better than baboons any day
But I have to admit they aren’t fun to play…
